Chemical Cleaning

Chemical Cleaning

Chemical cleaning of brickwork involves the use of specialized chemicals to remove various types of contaminants, stains, and deposits from the surface of brick structures. It’s typically done to restore the appearance of the brickwork or to prepare it for painting or sealing. Here’s how the process generally works:

  1. Assessment: Before beginning the cleaning process, it’s essential to assess the condition of the brickwork and identify the type of contaminants present. This helps determine the appropriate chemicals and cleaning methods to use.
  2. Preparation: Surrounding areas should be adequately protected from the chemicals to prevent damage. This may involve covering nearby vegetation, windows, and other sensitive surfaces.
  3. Selection of Chemicals: Different types of chemicals are available for chemical cleaning depending on the nature of the stains and contaminants. Common chemicals used include acids (such as hydrochloric acid or phosphoric acid), alkalis (such as sodium hydroxide), or proprietary brick cleaners designed specifically for this purpose.
  4. Application: The selected chemical solution is applied to the surface of the brickwork using spray equipment, brushes, or rollers. It’s essential to follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding dilution rates, application methods, and safety precautions.
  5. Dwell Time: The chemical solution is allowed to dwell on the surface for a specified period to loosen the contaminants and stains. This dwell time may vary depending on factors such as the type and severity of the stains and the ambient temperature.
  6. Agitation: In some cases, mechanical agitation may be required to enhance the cleaning process. This can involve scrubbing with brushes or using pressure washing equipment.
  7. Rinsing: Once the dwell time is complete and the contaminants are loosened, the brickwork is thoroughly rinsed with clean water to remove the chemical residue and any remaining contaminants.
  8. Neutralization: If acidic or alkaline chemicals were used in the cleaning process, it may be necessary to neutralize the surface to restore its pH balance. This is typically done by applying a neutralizing agent followed by thorough rinsing.
  9. Drying: After cleaning, the brickwork should be allowed to dry completely before further treatment or sealing.

Dave and the team have undertaken a couple of separate jobs for us and each time they have been great at staying in touch and coming when they say they will. Clear quotes and the work all looks great. Dave was really helpful explaining what needed doing and why, as well as the most efficient way to go about it. I’ve been really impressed and i wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them

First class from start to finish.
Dave and his team are top quality tradesmen.
From the initial contact , fast response, honest quote with no hidden extras. Dave kept in touch throughout and put us at ease after we’d had some pretty bad experiences with tradesmen in the past. The work they carried out is exceptional, they were on time, spotlessly tidy and really polite. The two lads Dave had on the job were fantastic, they worked solidly for the time they were here and people have already commented on the high standard of work they carried out.
Cheers to Dave and the team. Would 100% recommend and I’ve already booked in for more work 👍👍

I’ve used Dave and Lee on my previous property. Once again the lads did a brilliant job on my current house. Apart from having attention to detail and delivering first rate work, they work hard, keep the place clean, get work done efficiently and always aim to please.

Dave and his honest, hardworking, friendly, professional team have done a superb job pointing the brickwork on our small block of 6 flats. The place looks transformed and we are looking forward to them coming back to complete the walls in less urgent need of repair. Grinding and pointing is a messy, dusty (and sometimes noisy) job but the team cleared up and hosed down at the end of each day, leaving everything looking very tidy. A good job exceedingly well done for a competitive price. Can’t recommend highly enough.

I have had Grind And Point repoint the front face of my house. I am very pleased with the end result. The house looks much neater and far more presentable than it did. I am so pleased with the outcome that I am rehiring them to repoint the Gable end of my house to match the front face.

Had a fantastic first class experience with Dave and his team. I was having the red paint taken off the front of my house and repointed. Excellent from start to finish. Good workers, very high standard, got on with the job and cleaned up after themselves every night. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending these guys…….. you wont be disappointed 🙂

Cannot speak any higher about Dave & Lee from Grind & Point. Their work was absolute quality, they always arrived prior to the time they said they’d be there, they always cleaned up at the end of the day (including neighbours houses and cars) and on top of that, both were polite and could hold a conversation.
As a result of having their own scaffold tower, they were also a lot cheaper than their nearest competitor.
Great job, would definitely recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

Dave and his team have done an incredible job on our house. The finished job is so neat, the lengths they went to to not only tidy our garden and drive but also the neighbours post grinding was incredible and they are just a lovely bunch of people. We would 100% recommend them.

The house looks great. We had the front and gable pointed and chemical cleaned. Our neighbour had used Grind and Point a couple of years ago and we were impressed. Great lads, very professional from start to finish. Have had a few enquires from neighbours having seen the final result. Thank you Dave, Lee and Dave. Margaret and Gerard Clarke.

Used Dave and his team to replace some bricks and repair some pointing on three exterior walls. Did a really good job, they were very professional, hard working and tidied up after themselves. Would highly recommend.
